A MEMORIAL service for Australian cyclist Amy Gillett (nee Safe), will be held in Adelaide today, with the SA government pledging $50,000 to the foundation set up in her memory.
The 29-year-old cycling champion was killed when a teenage driver hit her and five other members of the Australian women’s cycling team while they were on a training run in Germany last month for a touring event.
SA Premier Mike Rann today urged Prime Minister John Howard and other state and territory leaders to follow his lead and make a donation to the Amy Gillett-Safe Cycling Foundation.
